Disaster Relief
Who are the Duck River Baptist Association Disaster Relief Volunteers? They are members of the Duck River Baptist Association Churches who have a desire to make Christ known by serving. They are trained volunteers that give their time, energy and resources to serve others in our community, our Association, and to respond when called upon by the Tennessee Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board.

2009 Disaster Responses
(Note: The 2009 report begins where 2008 reports ended with Mississippi rebuilding from Katrina)
Sept. 28-Oct. 4 -Mississippi Rebuild (6 people, 1 from W. Carey, 335 hours)
Oct. 12-19 - Mississippi Rebuild (7 people, 1 from Wm. Carey, 490 hours)
Nov. 2-8 - Mississippi Rebuild (8 people, 1 from Wm. Carey, 576 hours). We were the last TBC rebuild team in the 3 year Gulf
Coast partnership and finished the last house on Nov. 7th. This home owner made a procession of faith while we were
working on her house. We were truly blessed to have been part of the TBC rebuild effort that built 61 houses start to
finish, completed over 250 projects, and changed hundreds of lives on the Gulf Coast.
Feb. 2-7 – Chain saw team (with a Chaplain) responded to Princeton, KY due to an ice storm (10 people, 560 hours)
May 21-27 – Chain saw team (with a Chaplain) teamed up with Wm. Carey to Marion, IL. for what was termed as an inland
hurricane. (5 people, 290 hours)
TBC now requests at least 1 Chaplain to go with each team that is called out. Duck River Baptist Association has trained Chaplains trained in “Crisis Intervention” so we do not have to request a Chaplain to be assigned to us.
This year, 21 people from Duck River Baptist Association worked a total of 3178 hours or 397 (8 hour) days, not counting the Bonnaroo Ministry.
The Disaster Relief Ministry would like to express our appreciation to the Association and to the churches for supporting this ministry. God has richly blessed us as we have served during disasters as well as serving those who need help in our community. Disaster Relief starts at home.
The Disaster Relief Ministry would also like to thank the Association and churches for allowing us to have a storage building to house the trailer and to store all of the tools and equipment in one place. We began work on the building in April and we are under budget. The building is almost finished; we still have to do the wiring. Almost all of the work has been done by our volunteers.
The Disaster Relief Ministry meets the third Thursday of Jan., Mar., May, July, Sept, and Nov. at 7:00 PM at the Association Office. Anyone who is interested in becoming involved with Disaster Relief or just wants to learn more about the ministry is invited to attend.
Matthew 25:38 Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.
